KAREN MORROW AKEHURST
Karen Morrow Akehurst Bio
Writing is my passion and I love a new challenge. I’m pretty sure that saltwater flows through my veins so the ocean is usually present in my work. I also have a thing for history. And lighthouses. And wintry windswept beaches. I live on the South Coast of NSW and when I’m not writing, I’m swimming, cooking and walking my work experience PA Charlie in this beautiful part of the world. My background is in business writing, although I’ve been writing literary short fiction and non-fiction.
Before I Die in
Fliders Island, Tasmnia Australia
Organized by Karen Morrow Akehurst, Mountain Seas Arts, Flinders Council and Flinders Island Regional Arts, September, 2014.
This wall was a collaborative community arts project by some awesome people who love art and Flinders Island.
Mountain Seas Arts, a retreat located in Strzelecki National Park Flinders Island, provides residencies for visiting artists, asking that they contribute something to the local community in return. This project was the contribution of AIR Karen Morrow Akehurst.
It lived in Whitemark, Flinders Island on the wall of an art gallery recently acquired by Flinders Council and was launched with an embroidery exhibition.
The launch was generously supported by the Country Womens Association, who organised a sausage sizzle for all who attended.
The arts community on Flinders Island is very strong and this project was enthusiastically embraced by everyone.
Made with love by Karen Morrow Akehurst, Mountain Seas Arts, Jana Harper - Flinders Council, Noel Warden and Flinders Island Regional Arts and Sergeant Russell Judges. Opened by Lady Mary Mactier, in the year of her 100th birthday!
